Partnering with Government and Community to Manage the Natural Resources of the Bale Massif

Capacity building

In depth training needs assessments are being undertaken with government and community implementation partners in order to enable both to identify the specific skills they need to effectively carry out and support the new systems of planning and resource management being promoted by the programme. It aims to lead to the establishment of strong Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and to promote coordination and communication between the two partners.

Based on the results of the training needs assessment, a comprehensive and innovative capacity building package is delivered. Training options involve on-the job training and learning by doing. Training courses and exercises are also organised. Study tours and exchange visits to community based natural resource management and co-management sites both in country and overseas are arranged.

Gender and HIV/AIDS are the two issues that the programme is committed to address in recognition of their importance and cross cutting nature within sustainable development. The programme seeks opportunities to mainstream these issues into all the work that it is carrying out.
