The overall objective of Eco-Region planning is to develop a
planning system that enables the review of these
activities at different scales and by different
users. It is aimed to develop a practical tool for
landuse planning and decision making that can be
accessed and used by both government offices and
communities.
The aim is to develop a tool for landuse planning and
decision making that contains information which
enables government and community leaders to make
decisions about critical development issues such as
changes in landuse, and the growth of settlement.
The establishment of an EcoRegion planning tool aims
to enable the achievement of sustainable
development, safeguard and conserve the natural
environment. It also aims to identify and respond to
planning and development problems, such as boundary
disputes between landuses and conflicts of interest
between resource users and uses.
The EcoRegion planning system that the programme will
develop will mirror the demonstrative divisions of
the government focusing at the Woreda level. The
planning system will thereby be of direct relevance
to government bodies.
