Carry out enterprise feasibility studies – market
analysis
Feasibility studies and market analysis
will be undertaken for all potential enterprises
identified by the community, as part of the
livelihood / business planning process. The
marketing aspects of livelihood enterprise
development will aim at building market linkages
between community producers and the private sectors.
3.
Build Government and Community specific skills
Capacity of woreda government offices,
specifically the natural resources staff, in
supporting sustainable natural resource based
livelihood development will be built. Training will
focus on developing new approaches and methods of
working with communities for sustainable natural
resource exploitation and improved income
generation, particularly from non-timber forest
products (NTFPs).
Develop Linkages with public and private sector on
natural resources based enterprises
The programme will seek and ensure
joint agreements between local community
institutions and private sector organisations to
implement innovative livelihoods options and
business enterprise ventures. These
community-private partnerships will seek to enable
and facilitate linkages between producers
(community) and marketers (private sector) and
between products and markets.
Implement
livelihood diversification
The implementation of livelihood
initiatives will be carried out with the use of a
Community Development Fund (CDF). A fund will be set
up under the management of appropriate community
groups in order to promote and enable self managed
development. Livelihood activities will fall under
the criteria of activities that are related to
improved natural resource management and improved
income for better utilisation of the existing
natural resource base.
Scale up through
Woreda offices
Scale up of successful NRM and
livelihoods initiatives will be undertaken through
relevant Woreda offices. Community-based monitoring
systems will also be introduced so that the
communities themselves can feed information back to
the programme. Scaling up livelihoods activities
will use strategies such as community-to-community
training activities, demonstration days, experience
sharing and learning, and farmer training centres.
